Scotland might be famous for lochs, castles, and whisky, but it also boasts a rich and thrilling motorsport heritage. From Formula One champions to local rally legends and historic racing circuits, Scotland’s passion for motorsport runs deep.

Scottish Legends of the Track

Scotland has produced some of the finest racing talent in the world:

Jim Clark – Two-time Formula One World Champion (1963, 1965), considered one of the greatest drivers of all time.

Jackie Stewart – Three-time Formula One World Champion (1969, 1971, 1973), known as “The Flying Scot” and a pioneer in racing safety.

David Coulthard – 13-time Grand Prix winner and long-time ambassador for the sport.

Allan McNish – Renowned endurance racer and three-time Le Mans 24 Hours winner.

Dario Franchitti – Born in Bathgate, West Lothian – Four-time IndyCar Series champion and triple Indy 500 winner.

Scottish Motorsport Circuits

While Scotland currently doesn’t host a Formula One race, it has several iconic circuits:

  • Knockhill (Fife) – Scotland’s National Motorsport Centre, hosting BTCC, Superbikes, drifting, and club events.
  • East Fortune (East Lothian) – A former airfield turned motorsport venue, mainly for bike racing and historic events.
